Philosophy
CorYoga is not about how far one can bend, twist or
turn, or who can bend the furthest. Yoga is not about comparison, or
judgment and it is certainly not about competition. CorYoga is about a
healthy way of living. It’s a lifestyle. What we do in a room such as a
yoga studio or gym is a small part of what CorYoga is. “Asanas” or
CorYoga postures serve two purposes:
1. To create a firm body, and
2. To prepare you for meditation
Everything that we do between the time that we start in mountain pose
until we start savasana (whether in corpse pose, sitting in lotus or
sitting in a chair) is preparation for meditation, or stilling of the
mind. So the things that we do in between (the lifting, bending,
twisting and turning) all serve to work out the kinks, stress and
tension from our physical bodies. This way when you finally move into
meditation position, your body is as stress free as possible.
Now when you are in meditation posture your mind is no longer thinking
about the aches and pain in your neck, back and hips. Your mind can
settle down and do what it needs to do, which is stilling itself. When
the mind is still you can focus, you can concentrate, you become more
attuned and sensitive to your feelings as well as the feelings of
others. You become more aware of your surroundings and your environment.
You become more intuitive. As a result your entire life improves.
However, during the process of doing the lifting, twisting, bending etc.
(asanas) you will receive other physical benefits such as improved
focus, balance, co-ordination, improved flexibility muscular strength,
muscular endurance, eventually weight loss and a firmer body. Yoga is
connecting “you with you” and you with your entire surroundings. What we
do in the room (what the Western World calls yoga) is one activity that
serves our mind, body and spirit.
